The effects of structural breaks and long memory on currency hedging

Empirical evidence suggests that unconditional variance of exchange rate return series is subject to occasional structural breaks that may induce spurious phenomenon of high persistence and long memory of volatility processes. In this study, we investigate the effects of such breaks on estimated risk-minimizing hedge strategies (ratios) and their performance in currency markets. Using bivariate GARCH (BGARCH) and fractionally integrated GARCH models, we estimate the hedge ratios for six foreign currencies in the full sample with and without controlling for breaks and each subsample of different unconditional variance regimes identified by a modified version of the Inclan C, and Tiao GC (1994) algorithm. Our findings suggest that daily currency risk can be better hedged with currency futures when controlling for unconditional variance breaks in the BGARCH model. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. AN ANALYSIS OF FACTORS AFFECTING CROSS DOCKING OPERATIONS

Using simulation, we examine the decisions in moving freight between inbound and outbound trailers in a cross dock. The decisions examined include direct versus indirect handling of pallets, number of open receiving doors, door layout, number of forklifts, size of cross dock and freight mix. This study provides useful insights on handling freight in a cross dock.

Antecedents and consequences of knowledge sharing in international tourist hotels

The purpose of this empirical study is to investigate factors which influence knowledge sharing, organizational learning and effectiveness. Of self-completed questionnaires collected from international tourist hotels in Taiwan, 615 were usable for data analysis. The structural equation modeling results showed that leaders played the roles of mentor, facilitator and innovator, and nurtured a supportive environment at the levels of workgroup, immediate superior and organization. In addition, employees had a positive attitude towards learning and to sharing. All of these contributions facilitate transformation of collective individual knowledge to organizational knowledge, resulting in the advancement of organizational learning, and thus, greater organizational effectiveness.

非正规金融违规借贷的成因分析——基于文献调查

近年来,非正规金融违规借贷广泛存在,其涉及地域广、行业多、影响范围广。文章基于成因分析的结果上,对2011年110起非正规金融违规借贷案例加以检验分析,得出高利贷、私营企业融资供不应求以及金融体制不健全是导致借贷纠纷最主要的原因。因此,规避高利贷行为、拓宽私营企业融资渠道、加强金融监管是引导非正规金融健康发展的有效措施。

基本养老金替代率合意水平研究——以上海市城镇居民为例

社会保障制度是人类社会文明进步的标志,社会养老保险是其中一项重要制度,其建立对社会的平稳发展有重要影响.在人口老龄化日益深化的时期,及时有效地对社会养老保险制度进行改革势在必行.在改革过程中,对基本养老金替代率的合意水平进行研究具有深远意义.以上海市城镇居民为例,建立基本养老金收支平衡模型,将计算出的合意供给替代率与现实需求替代率进行对比.结果对比发现,需求与供给难以匹配,对不匹配的基本原因进行分析,并在此基础上提出相应对策.
